The Speakers of 2010

Peter Kaptein, RoomWare

PKaptein_160.jpgPeter Kaptein is a developer and designer of software. He developed and designed Intranet-solutions and web based Content Management Systems from 1998 to 2002. In 2002 he moved to using and programming Adobe Flash and is currently building RAD frameworks for web/real-world interfacing, "web of things" and RoomWare based applications.

Kaptein lives in Florence, Italy and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he works as a freelancer and is co-creating new Open Sourced RAD Frameworks for RoomWare and RoomWare related hardware / software solutions, including RFID, bluetooth, QR-codes, GSM and WiFi to identify users and objects and using webcams, AR toolkits, sound,
movement, mobile phones and touch for user interactions with applications and (online) data.

Kaptein believes that within five to ten years, Roomware will become common good. Cities will be "sensing" what is going on in their "bodies" via countless types of different sensors, people will be using RFID-cards like their Oyster and OV-chip cards for more than just checking in and out at public transportation and these cards will become the key to many things: like loyalty programs in shops, restaurants and cafes and operating as a key to your house and the office you work. The first parts of the new foundation for RoomWare applications has been publicly released in early 2010 and includes interactions with mobile phones, the use of XBee sensors, QR-codes and bluetooth.
