Love your Data: NEXT11 Call for Papers extended
By Sebastian Keil, translation of German blogpost
„Data Love“ will be the main topic of Next 2011 (again in Berlin), which is, to me, a really exciting subject. This year, users can take part in deciding about the topics and speakers at NEXT. At http://vote.nextconf.eu people can submit ideas and vote for their favorites, right now talks by Ali Rıza Babaoğlan, Julian Assange and Jürgen Alker are in the lead – of course, some of the suggested (like Assange) have yet to be asked to come.
If you take a look at the proposals, it’s easy to notice that many people add themselves to the list (might be a question of taste), and, unfortunately, not every proposed topic has to do with „Data“ (see Alker). Also, the vote is very easy to manipulate, but that’s not what I really want to talk about. In fact, the call for papers has been extended to February 15. So there’s still time to take matters into your own hands; if I wasn’t satisfied with the current selection, I’d make suggestions. Data Love…
Where is Avinash Kaushik, the evangelist of Google Analytics? Where is Hans Rosling? Where are Jonathan Harris and We feel fine? Where are the makers of Chartbeat, who could give a nice best practice? It’s not that I want to see the same talks I’ve already seen on TV or online, just live. But these are the people who love data and actually won’t bore you during a 30-minute-speech. And where is the alternative perspective, saying „Data isn’t everything?“
Well, there are 15 days left to help set up the programme you like, so: Propose a speaker or topic!
