Joerg studied business at the University of Cologne. In 1994 he founded the multimedia agency denkwerk new media Holding AG with several business partners. As executive director at denkwerk he oversaw projects for firms such as Henkel, Sal. Oppenheim, Ritter Sport, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cologne.
In February of 1999 Joerg founded alando.de AG together with five friends. In the summer of 1999, eBay Inc. bought out all shares of alando and Joerg became managing director of eBay in Germany. Joerg built up eBay Germany, Austria and Switzerland until the summer of 2004, when he took sixmonths of parental leave to look after his new-born sons.
While on parental leave, Joerg began thinking about the future together with his good friend Stephan Schwahlen. They decided to begin supporting excellent start-up teams with scaleable business ideas. They founded M10 GmbH and have supported a number of new ventures. One of these ventures, betterplace.org, is a non-profit, which Joerg and Stephan hope will help make the world better one step and one project at a time.
