The increasing presence of smart technology connected to the Internet Of Things (IOT) brings with it many changes and challenges. While the user’s demand for high tech smart devices, especially for those not originally screen based, is growing, the awareness of data privacy is also increasing. People are a lot more technology savvy than one might think and the question of “what is happening to my data?” is being given increased focus.

This episode of the NEXT-SHOW highlights the consumer ambivalence and the growing appetite for smart home technology on the one side and the increase of data privacy awareness on the other side.
We will look at the origins of selling people things that make them more efficient and the difference between the original purpose of many smart devices versus what they are actually being used for.

Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino is a London-based author, consultant and entrepreneur with a background in design. She wrote ‘Smarter Homes: how technology will change your home life’ and ‘Creating a Culture of Innovation’, was the first UK distributor of the Arduino and founder of the Good Night Lamp which is in the permanent collection of the London Design Museum. She is building the Low Carbon Design Institute, exploring how creative professionals integrate climate change knowledge in their practice.
