Self-confessed “creative scientist”, Dr Kate Stone, is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Novalia and sits at the intersection where art, science, design and technology meet. She founded her company in 2006 to create magical and immersive experiences with print and electronics.

Kate has worked alongside some of the world’s biggest brands, such as McDonald’s, Bud Light, Google and Unilever, and her work has been seen and shared by millions. Memorable projects include turning Pizza Hut boxes into functional DJ decks, creating musical wall displays for SXSW in Texas, and building a paper notebook which doubles as a MIDI keyboard, among many other interactive installations.

Now based in Los Angeles, Kate is a lay member of the Editors’ Code of Practice Committee in her native UK. She is also Chair of the Executive Board of the MIDI Manufacturers Association and Chair of the Board of Just Bee, a charity in Dundee that provides help to the vulnerable and underserved. Kate has a degree in Electronics from Salford University and a PhD from Cambridge University.

When she isn’t busy working, Kate takes the opportunity to get outside. She is a keen hiker and camper and tries her best to avoid getting eaten by bears or other wild animals!
