Charon Bestattungen, Undertaker
Lea Gscheidel as the daughter of an undertaker and a midwife, is used to both, birth and death, being part of daily life. Having worked for 15 years for different theaters (e.g. Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Schaubühne Berlin) and cultural festivals (e.g. Ruhrtriennale, 9to5.wir nennen es arbeit) she then came back to the family business to discover the field of death and the funeral business for herself. As a member of a younger generation she not only questions the traditional manner to which we approach death and funerals’, but also rethinks the business models and the current ways of working. She is an active member of the Re.Designing Death movement and Unser Tod IG, convinced that by joining forces with like-minded people you can challenge the status quo. Together, with Designer Virginie Gailing, she initiated a project to address the following question: How can conversations on death and funerals, loss and farewells be facilitated in a way that inspires people, and lets them enjoy talking about this crucial aspect of our lives?
