Robin is a co-founder of Black Forest Labs, where he focuses on developing cutting-edge AI models in Europe. His mission is to advance high-quality generative deep learning models for images and video, making them accessible to a broad audience.

Previously, Robin was a research scientist at Stability AI. He studied physics at the University of Heidelberg (2013–2020) before pursuing a PhD in computer science in the Computer Vision group in Heidelberg, later relocating to LMU Munich with his research team in 2021. His research centres on generative deep learning models, particularly text-to-image systems.

During his PhD, Robin played a key role in the development of widely used projects such as VQGAN, Taming Transformers, and Latent Diffusion Models. In collaboration with Stability AI, he scaled the latent diffusion approach, leading to the creation of the Stable Diffusion models, which have since been widely adopted by the AI community.

Robin is a strong advocate for open-source machine learning models, aiming to push the boundaries of innovation while ensuring accessibility and transparency.
