On 1 August 2012 Marc Opelt, born 1962 in Nuremberg, became a Member of the OTTO Management Board for Marketing and, since 1 January 2017, he has been their Spokesman.
After gaining a Degree in Business Administration at the University in Nuremberg, in 1990 he joined Otto Versand (as it was then) as Marketing Assistant in Durable Goods Catalogue Marketing.
In 1992, he became Head of Durable Goods Catalogue Marketing.
Opelt originated the business concept of today's OTTO Office (formerly Otto Office & Technology) in 1994, and two years later joined this company’s Executive Board, with responsibility for Purchasing, Marketing, Distribution, HR, Advertising, Call Center and later also E-Commerce.
Following the successful establishment of the company, Opelt joined the Board of Directors at Eddie Bauer in Munich in 2000, where he had responsibility for Marketing, Sales & Distribution, Advertising, HR, Finance and Controlling.
In 2002, Marc then became Divisional Vice President of Direct Sales for Eddie Bauer USA in Seattle. A year later, he added Multichannel Marketing and Stores to his responsibilities, now as Vice President and Executive Board Member for Direct Sales.
In 2005, Opelt was appointed to the Executive Board of the Baur Group in Burgkunstadt for the areas of Marketing, Sales & Distribution, Advertising and E-Commerce, and became Chairman of the Executive Board in 2009.
As a Member of the OTTO Management Board Marketing, alongside the ongoing further development of the otto.de online shop, Opelt is responsible, amongst other areas, for Brand Management, Customer and Format Management as well as Business Intelligence.
On 1 June 2018 he became Chairman of the OTTO Management Board.
